Affiliate disclosure

Disclosure

Short version: a few links on this site are affiliate links, and each one is labelled. We work with affiliate programmes through Travelpayouts, an affiliate network. Booking through one of our affiliate links earns us a small commission and costs you exactly the same price — and it will never decide what we recommend.

What an affiliate link is

An affiliate link is a normal link with a tracking code on the end. If you click it and then book something, the company pays us a percentage of their own margin. It does not add anything to your price. Booking through an affiliate link costs you the same as typing the address in yourself.

Our affiliate links are labelled “affiliate link” next to them and marked in the page's code with rel="nofollow sponsored", and any block of the page that exists mainly to point you at a booking will be labelled as such.

Who we work with

Booking.com (hotels), through CJ Affiliate; and through Travelpayouts: Intui.travel and GetTransfer (airport transfers), Localrent (car hire), Kiwi.com (flights) and Yesim (eSIM). Those are the only affiliate programmes we use so far. Their links appear where a guide talks about the thing they sell, and next to each one we say what we used ourselves — our transfers, for example, were booked separately, not through these companies. Every page also loads the Travelpayouts script so the network can confirm that the site is ours (see the privacy policy). Any other programme we join will be named here before its first link goes live. Apart from those, every booking link you will find here goes to the monument's own ticket office or to the operator's plain public page. The accommodation links are Booking.com searches for the property name, and they are affiliate links — we stayed in each one and paid the price printed beside it. If you book through one, Booking.com pays us a small commission and your price stays the same. We use a search rather than a direct page because property pages move and we would rather send you to a live result than to a dead link.

That will probably change — the running costs have to come from somewhere, and tours and accommodation are the obvious candidates. When it does, this page is updated before the first affiliate link goes live, naming each programme, and the rules below apply from that day.

The rules we hold ourselves to

The official ticket office comes first.
When buying direct from a monument is cheaper or easier than any reseller — which is usually the case in Spain — we say so and link the official site, even though it earns us nothing. A guide that pushes a €40 reseller ticket for a €16.50 monument is not worth reading.
Commissions don't change recommendations.
We decide what to recommend first, then look at whether a link exists for it. Never the other way round. If the best answer is "don't book this, just walk in", that's what the page says.
We only link things we'd use.
If we haven't done a tour ourselves, the page says so rather than implying we have.
Prices are what we paid.
The price tables on our guides come from our own tickets, next to the current price re-checked against the monument's own website. Both are dated.
Nobody pays for coverage.
We don't accept payment for a review, a mention, or a link placement, and we don't publish sponsored posts written by anyone else.
Nothing on this site was comped.
Every flight, bed, ticket and tour described here was paid for at the ordinary public price, by us. We have never accepted a press trip, a free ticket or a hosted stay. If we ever do, it will be said on this page and on the specific guide, both.

Images

Every photograph on this site was taken by us, on the trip it appears in. That is the point of the site: the timestamps in the captions are real, and when we write that the light was good at half past four it is because we were standing there at half past four. We do not use stock photography, and we never use a picture to imply we were somewhere we were not.

Two things are worth saying plainly about how those photographs are handled.

  • Cover images are processed. The picture at the top of a guide is still ours, but it has been worked on to function as artwork — cropped, colour-graded, and in some cases cleaned up with AI tools. Treat a cover as a poster for the page rather than as evidence. Covers never carry a timestamp, and we do not use them inside a guide.
  • Photographs inside a guide are not. Beyond ordinary exposure and colour correction, the images in the body of a guide are left alone. Nothing is added to them and nothing is removed from them. If a picture has a time on it, we took it, at that time, standing there.

If we ever need an image of something we have no photograph of, we will use Wikimedia Commons with attribution and say so on the page. At the time of writing, we have not had to.

Advertising

Roads of Adventure currently carries no display advertising. If that changes, this page will say which network we use and what data it collects, and the privacy policy will be updated at the same time.

Accuracy and liability

We check every opening time, price and booking rule against official sources before publishing, and re-check at least once a year. Even so, monuments change timetables at short notice, close for restoration, and raise prices without announcement. Always confirm on the official website before you travel. We can't accept responsibility for a closed door or a sold-out slot, and nothing here is a substitute for the operator's own current information.
