Privacy policy
Privacy
Roads of Adventure collects as little as it can get away with: no cookies of our own, no advertising trackers, and no email address we weren't given on purpose.
This policy describes what the site actually does, in plain language rather than in legal boilerplate. It is not legal advice and has not been reviewed by a lawyer. If anything here does not match what you experience on the site, tell us and it gets corrected.
Who we are
Roads of Adventure is a personal travel-guide website published at https://roadsofadventure.com.
It is written and run by one person, not a company. For the purposes of the GDPR the data controller is:
Georgi Margaritov
Bulgaria
myroadsofadventure@gmail.com
Contact for anything in this policy: myroadsofadventure@gmail.com. If you want a postal address for a formal request, ask and it will be given to you.
What we collect, and why
- Nothing, if you just read
- You can read every guide on this site without giving us anything. We set no cookies of our own and we do not build a profile of you.
- Your email address, if you ask to be on the newsletter
- There is no subscribe form on this site yet. If you email us asking to be added, we keep that address on a list in our own mailbox and nowhere else, so we can tell you when the first issue goes out. Lawful basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw by replying to say so. When a proper newsletter provider is in place, this section will be rewritten to name it before a single email is sent.
- Anonymous visit statistics
- We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see which pages get read and roughly which country readers are in. It is cookieless, it does not track you across websites, it does not fingerprint your browser, and it does not collect anything that identifies you personally. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in knowing whether the site is useful (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- The Travelpayouts script
- Every page loads a small script from Travelpayouts, the affiliate network we work with. It lets Travelpayouts and its partner brands confirm that this site is ours, and it counts page visits and clicks on affiliate links. We have switched off all of its automatic features, so it does not add links, boxes or adverts to our pages. Travelpayouts states that the script does not collect personal data. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in running the affiliate programme that pays for the site (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Anything you email us
- If you write to us, we keep the message so we can reply and so we can fix whatever you told us about. We delete correspondence we no longer need.
Cookies
Roads of Adventure sets no cookies of its own, and uses no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. That is why you are not being asked to dismiss a cookie banner.
The full details, including the security cookies our host may set, are in our cookie policy.
Two things may still touch your browser:
- Fonts are served from this site itself. Your browser does not contact Google or any other font service, and no cookie is set.
- Affiliate links. If you click a link to a booking site, that company may set a cookie to record that you arrived from here. It is set by them, on their site, under their privacy policy — not by us. See our affiliate disclosure for who those companies are.
Who we share data with
We don't sell or rent anything, ever. The only companies that touch your data are the ones that make the site work:
- Cloudflare — hosting, the domain, and the network the site is served over. Cloudflare keeps standard request logs and, as a US company, relies on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and its own Data Processing Addendum for transfers out of the EEA.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics — the anonymous visit counts described above, under the same terms.
- Travelpayouts — the affiliate network, through the script described above and when you click one of our affiliate links.
- CJ Affiliate — the affiliate network behind our Booking.com links, when you click one of them.
There is no newsletter provider, no advertising network and no comment system, and apart from the Travelpayouts script there is no third-party code on any page. If that changes, this list changes first.
How long we keep things
- Newsletter addresses: until you ask to come off the list, or until the newsletter is abandoned. Once it starts properly, every email will carry a one-click unsubscribe link.
- Analytics: aggregate counts only, retained by our provider under their standard retention period. Nothing is linked to you.
- Emails you send us: as long as the conversation is useful, then deleted.
Your rights
If you're in the EU, the UK, or another region with comparable law, you have the right to ask us to: confirm what data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, give you a copy, restrict how we use it, or object to our use of it. You can also withdraw consent at any time — for the newsletter, the unsubscribe link does this instantly.
Email myroadsofadventure@gmail.com and we'll deal with it within 30 days. In practice, realistically, the same week.
You are also entitled to complain to a data protection authority. Ours is the Commission for Personal Data Protection of the Republic of Bulgaria (КЗЛД), 2 Prof. Tsvetan Lazarov Blvd., Sofia 1592, cpdp.bg. If you live elsewhere in the EU you may also complain to your own national authority.
Children
This site isn't aimed at children and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has subscribed, email us and we'll remove the address.
Changes to this policy
If we add anything that collects more data — display advertising, comments, an account system — we will update this page before it goes live, and change the date below.
Last updated: 25 October 2026.
A little more adventure in your inbox.
The newsletter is being set up. Until it opens, write to us and we'll add you to the first send — and we'll answer any question about a trip while we're at it.
No spam, one click to unsubscribe once it starts. We never share your address — see the privacy policy.
